Activities

How can we arrange shapes in different ways?

How can we use shapes to make a collage about where we live?

Let’s look at the shapes that you have.

What shapes do you see? Are they large or small?

How will you arrange these shapes on your background paper?

Will you put them close together? Or far apart?

Will you overlap and put one piece on top of another?

Will you arrange the shapes to make a building like the one you live in, or where you’d like to live?

Will it be tall or short?

What kind of windows and door will it have?

What else will you add?

Now it’s time to glue.

Pick up one piece at a time.

  • Dip, dip, dip the stick into the glue.
  • Wipe, wipe, wipe the drip on the edge.
  • And spread, spread, spread the glue onto each shape.

Press each shape down where it was.

Make sure to glue all your shapes.

Look at your collage.

  • What shapes did you choose?
  • How did you arrange your shapes?

Extensions

Try cutting or tearing your own shapes to make a collage!

How can you use scissors to cut shapes for your collage? What new shapes will you be able to make? Remember to be careful with scissors.
