Overview

In this clay exploration unit, kindergarten students will discover the properties and potential of clay as a tactile medium. They will learn to manipulate clay using their hands as tools, create three-dimensional forms, and understand the concept of sculpture.

Materials and Tools

  • White paper, 80 lb., 12×18″
  • Assortment of pre-cut strips of construction paper
  • Assortment of pre-cut strips of corrugated paper (optional)
  • Trays
  • Soufflé cups of glue
  • Craft sticks
  • Gray self-hardening clay
  • Wire clay cutter
  • Deli containers
  • Sponges
  • Cardboard square base
  • Canvas or other covering to lay on the floor during engagement
  • Plastic scraper for clean up
  • Table covers (optional)
  • 4-5 deli containers with a mix of glue and water (optional)
  • Paintbrushes (optional)
  • Red, yellow, and blue paint in cups (optional)
