Overview
We will begin making our collage animals from painted and colored papers. Students will be able to make a collage of their animal to be added to the mural.
Materials
- Painted paper
- Colored paper
- Black paper – 9 x 12” (base for animal)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Resource: color photos of animals
Activities
Step 1
Revisit the lines and shapes that make up different animals.
Step 2
Show how to cut and arrange large shapes from painted paper to make body parts, choosing other colored papers.
Step 3
Have students cut, arrange, then glue animal shapes onto black paper.
Reflection
Students will share their animal collage with a partner and talk about what they notice in their friend’s artwork.
