Overview
Students will continue to build up layers and develop their expressive landscape painting.
Materials and Tools
- Tempera cake set or acrylic paint in plastic containers—red, yellow, blue, and white
- Water containers
- Variety of paint brushes
- Painting from previous week
- Sponge or paper towels
- Landscape reference images
Objectives
Students will understand that:
- Artists work from large areas to smaller details.
- Artists use appropriately sized tools to do their work, such as large brushes to cover large spaces and small brushes for small details.
- Features, shapes, colors, or textures can express a specific feeling or mood in an artwork.
Students will be able to:
- Continue developing their landscape working from the top of their paper or canvas down.
Sky → Background → Middle Ground → Foreground - Begin to develop layers on their surface.
- Begin to incorporate inventive colors into their painting.

Describe and model using specific colors or exaggerating elements to evoke a feeling or mood.
Ask students for their input on what to add or exaggerate or ask them to share what feeling they connect with your work.

As students continue to build up layers and develop their expressive landscape painting, encourage them to:
- Work from large areas to smaller details.
- Working from wash to layer.
- Work from light to dark.
- Work from the top of their surface down.
- Use appropriately sized tools to do their work, such as large brushes to cover large spaces and small brushes for small details.
- Consider how features, shapes, colors, or textures could evoke a specific feeling in their work.
