Layer final details and further develop colors in your landscape drawing.
Materials and Tools
- Oil pastels
- Drawings from previous week
- Landscape reference images
Objectives
Students will understand that:
- Artists can layer details on top of areas of color in a drawing.
- Adding details in the foreground can create depth in a drawing.
Students will be able to:
- Finish their drawing by adding color and details.
Activities
Model Identifying and Adding Details:
Model layering details in your drawing, using the side of the oil pastel to get thicker, richer marks and lines.
Work Time:
As students begin to finish their drawings, encourage them to:
- Further develop colors, working from the sky (top) to the foreground (bottom).
- Focus on adding tints in the sky, background, and middle ground; shades in the middle ground and foreground; and tones throughout.
- Layer details.
