Workshop for Educators: Early Childhood Collage

Early Childhood Collage:
A Hands-On Workshop

Are you looking for engaging ways to introduce collage to young artists in your classroom? Are you interested in supporting children’s development and independence as children tear, cut, and arrange shapes and textures to make collages?

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore approaches to teaching collage in the Early Childhood classroom focusing on inquiry, exploration, and discovery. Through four scaffolded lessons, you’ll learn how to:

  • Use inquiry to introduce collage materials and model use of tools
  • Engage children in open-ended explorations
  • Scaffold lessons to build on prior experiences
  • Establish routines for using tools and materials

We emphasize a “less is more” approach to materials and prioritize accessibility for all learners. With practical strategies and adaptable methods, this workshop will support developmentally appropriate, joyful collage-making in your classroom.
