Collage Foundations: A Hands-On Workshop

Are you looking for engaging ways to introduce collage in your classroom? Do you want to help students build foundational skills that support making complex works?

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore a structured approach to teaching collage that fosters skill development, experimentation, and artistic expression. Through three scaffolded lessons, you’ll learn how to:

  • Introduce collage as an open-ended, exploratory process
  • Teach students how to use tools and materials effectively
  • Guide students in creating compositions using torn and cut paper
  • Scaffold lessons to prepare students for representational collage projects

With practical strategies and adaptable approaches for different grade levels and learning needs, this workshop will help you build a strong foundation for creative, skillful, and joyful collage-making in your classroom.
