Daily Sketch: Texture

Look around for something that feels bumpy, rough, grainy, fuzzy, scratchy, or sandy. Place it where you can study it closely while you draw.

Run your fingers over the object and feel the texture with your skin.

With a pencil and paper, try to draw the texture of the object’s surface. Act as though your eyes and your pencil are a microscope, seeing all of the tiny little changes in the surface of the object.

What kinds of marks can you make with your pencil to represent the texture on your object?

What kinds of different shapes, dots, and lines can you repeat to represent its surface?
